13 Sep Te wiki o te reo Māori
This week it’s te wiki o te reo Māori (Māori language week) and for the occasion, to honour New Zealand’s indigenous language we have changed our cover images all across our social media!
It was a little challenging finding the right translation for ‘BiograView’, created from the words ‘biography’ and ‘viewpoint’. I settled for the translation of biography, haurongo, as together with the tag line Tirohanga mai i te au katoa (Perspsectives from around the globe) it really represents our motto.
I do feel a little compromised by the fact that I couldn’t put the macron over the ‘a’ in TĀNGATA and over the ‘o’ in KŌRERO in recreating the logo, but my excuse was that the font used wouln’t allow for that, and I wanted to keep all original elements the same. Having said that, you still often see words spelled without macrons, but I never know whether that is through ignorance or laziness. Nevertheless, I’m happy with the outcome.
I love language; it’s something I’ve always been interested in and recently reconnected with te reo classes after 15 years! Same teacher, different venue. And beautifully it’s also very timely, coinciding with the I am Hana project. I am looking forward to attending the panel discussion at the TSB Showplace, hosted by Oriini Kaipara.
